Gameinformer Magazine recently released issue 200, featuring their Best 200 Games of all time. I'm gonna list the ones i strongly gareed with the placement and reasoning on.
Number 1: The Legend of Zelda
I could not have agreed with this pick any more. And their reasoning was perfect. Before this game, video games were jsut arcade timewasters and something to do with your friend on your couch when you were bored. Zelda changed that. It's what truly turned gaming in the direction it's gone. GI, good job.
Number 8: Final Fantasy III
YES. Of all Final Fantasies, even the great and powerful VII, have only been chasing the shadow of III. Thought it followed its predacessors fairly closely, it was III that truly defined what a perfect RPG was. It's brilliant combat systems, stats, classes, weapons, everything about it was siimply orgasmic. Kudos to you Squaresoft.
Number 12: Legend of Zelda: A linkt o the past
FUCKING YES! This was one of the rgeatest games of the series. Though it may not be what Ocarina of Time was, neither would Ocarina of Time without this masterpiece before it, rasing the bar on what a game could do with storyline.
Number 13: Super Mario 64
Again, fuck yes. This is what made 3d platofrmers what they are today. Thanks you once again Nintendo, you seem to be owning my picks so far.
Number 15: FFVII
FUCK YES. I'm gonna have to quote directly on this one, cause it rocked.
"We could talk about how FFVII's CG cutscenes ushered in a new era of video game storytelling, or how the awesome Materia system gave players tons of flexibility in managing character abilities. We could even talk about how the visually outstanding summon sequences - some of which clock in at nearly a full minute - opened gamers' eyes to the possibilities of 3D visuals. Regardless of how many of this game's redeeming qualities we point out, it will always be remembered best for one word: Sephiroth. With a long blakc coat and a lady friend-killing katana, Sephiroth played the part of the megalomaniacal, godlike supervillain like no one before or since. Oh, and Cloud was alright, too."
IN YOUR FACE CLOUD FANBOYS!
Number 20: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
God damn, this is turning into a war between FF and Zelda for dominating series in this countdown. This game once more singlehandedly raised the bar for all games that would attempt to follow it. It reinvented puzzles in games, led the way for boss fights from all games to follow, and provided one of the best "final battles" of any game to date.
Number 30: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Not nescessarily an innovator, but by far one of the best games built upon what the others have left for it. Very few games have done this much ,even with all its predecessors made available to it.
Number 43: FFX
Once more, fuck yes. Amazing story, and for once proved that you dont need a mushy happy ending to tell an amazing story.
Just about every Zelda or Final fantasy ever made is in here, so I won't go any further.
Let me hear you Scream like you want it! Let me me hear you Yell like you mean it! If you're gonna Go down, Go loud! Go strong! Go proud! Go on! Go hard or go home! Let me hear you Scream!
